Formerly known as the Gap Scholarship Fund, this scholarship supports at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s commitment to removing barriers and helping individuals from diverse backgrounds achieve their lifelong learning goals. It was established to support students in credit or noncredit programs who may not qualify for federal or state financial assistance despite demonstrated need.

Criteria

• Demonstrated financial need.

Established in memory of Yetta Burges by her son Bill and daughter-in-law Charlene Moskal-Burges, who have served at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ for decades. Yetta Burges was a City University of New York honors graduate, a lifelong learner and a career educator in New York City and northern New Jersey. The scholarship honors her commitment to college education and opportunity for all.

Criteria

• Pursuing an associate degree, certificate or credential at at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.
• Preference given to those enrolled in workforce training programs or social  sciences/humanities transfer degree programs.
• Preference given to Metropolitan Campus students.

Established by at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ alumna and instructor Claressa Collins, who believes that at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students will make a difference in our community.

Criteria

• Minimum 3.5 GPA in major.
• Sophomore academic standing.
• Enrolled in computer studies and/or accounting courses.
• Award based on merit. Applicants not required to demonstrate financial need.

Established with support from numerous corporations, businesses and individuals engaged in construction and related fields throughout Northeast Ohio.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.5 GPA (credit programs only).
• Enrolled in a construction trades program.

Established in honor of Nolen M. Ellison, Ph.D., who served as Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s second president from 1974 to 1991. The fund recognizes Dr. Ellison’s superb vision, leadership, dedication and commitment to at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, students and the community.

Criteria

• Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority resident.
• 18-35 years of age.
• Enrolled in and instructional or workforce training program.
• Applicant must be in good academic standing.

Established in 1967 by GAR Foundation and the William Sopko and Sons Co. to honor the values of founders Galen and Ruth Roush. GAR Foundation’s philanthropic efforts focus on education, health and social services, civic enhancement, the arts and nonprofit enhancement. Founded in 1952, William Sopko and Sons Co. has become a leading manufacturer of grinding accessories and a recognized specialist in repairing and rebuilding precision spindles of all types.

Criteria

• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Enrolled in an engineering/industrial technology program (includes apprenticeship programs).

Established in honor of James Gilmore, a 27-year Media Center and Information Technology Services employee who served the College with loyalty and dedication until his unexpected passing in 2011.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Enrolled in IT courses.

Established by Grenville R. and Jean Holden in memory of their daughter, Anne Holden. Two-thirds of these awards are designated for career program scholarships; the remaining third is limited to academic program scholarships.

Criteria

• Preference given to City of Cleveland residents.
• Applicant must demonstrate the minimum passing grade in all courses.

Established in memory of E.W. Holmok Jr. and Charles H. Kinzig.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Recent high school graduate.
• Preference given to students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

Established in recognition of Howmet Aerospace’s partnership with Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.

Howmet Aerospace is a global leader in engineered metal products. Howmet’s engines, fasteners and structures for aerospace and defense, as well as forged wheels, are transforming the aerospace and commercial transportation industries.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Preference given to students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

Established to support students studying information technology at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Enrolled in an information technology program.

Established by Minute Men Inc. in memory of Samuel G. Lucarelli, who founded Minute Men in 1968 with money he saved while working as a beverage distributor. By the early 1970s, the company had earned a solid reputation for responsiveness to customers. Lucarelli believed in hard work and supporting his community. This scholarship helps those who are working hard to achieve a better future and supports the community he loved.

Criteria

• CMSD graduate.
• Enrolled in a credit program (minimum six credits per semester) or a fast-track workforce training program that leads to a certificate or credential.

Established to support students enrolled in manufacturing programs at at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.5 GPA (credit programs only).
• Enrolled in a credit or noncredit manufacturing program.

Established to support high-quality education and workforce training that empowers community members to secure rewarding careers. The Meisel Family Foundation is committed to enhancing lives through their support of education. This scholarship fund continues the Meisel family’s legacy of contributing toward student success. Recipients are recognized as Meisel Foundation Scholars.

Criteria

• Minimum 3.0 GPA (for credit programs)
• Enrolled in an engineering, advanced manufacturing or information technology program.

As part of its mission, MetroHealth not only takes care of the ill and injured — it also focuses on “Leading the way to a healthier you and a healthier community through service, teaching, discovery and teamwork.” In an effort to extend that mission, this fund supports MetroHealth employees and their family members as well as residents of the neighborhoods surrounding its Main Campus Medical Center. This scholarship is renewable for one year as long as criteria are met.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
• Enrolled in a workforce training program that leads to a certificate or credential in a high-demand field.
• Preference given to MetroHealth employees and their family members, students who reside in MetroHealth’s core communities and students enrolled in a at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ health careers program.
• Develop and sign an Academic Plan (credit students only).

Established in 2008 by the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) in memory of longtime employee Richard N. Connelly. NEORSD employees and their immediate family are ineligible for this award. Recipients may have the opportunity to complete an internship with NEORSD. Recipients selected by a committee comprising representatives from NEORSD and at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.8 GPA
• At least one semester of coursework completed.
• U.S. citizen residing within NEORSD service area.
• Enrolled in one of the following programs: Biology, Chemistry, Construction Engineering Technology, Earth Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Environmental Health and Safety Technology, Integrated Systems Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Physical Science, Physics.
• Preference given to students majoring in Environmental Health and Safety Technology.
• Submit two letters of recommendation from at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty.

Established in recognition of Oatey Company’s partnership with Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. Recipients are recognized as Oatey Scholars.

Since 1916, Oatey has provided reliable, high-quality products for the residential and commercial plumbing industries. Today, Oatey operates a comprehensive manufacturing and distribution network to supply more than 6,000 products for professional builders, contractors, engineers and do-it-yourself consumers around the world. They offer innovative plumbing solutions that deliver results the first time.

Criteria

• Preference given to students interning at Oatey or spouses domestic partners or children of Oatey employees.
• Priority given to those pursuing degrees/certification in business, construction, engineering, information technology, welding and/or manufacturing.
• Applicant must be in good standing.
• Enrolled for at least six credits per semester (or in a workforce training program leading to certification).
• If scholarship is not awarded by Dec. 1 of each year, eligible at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students will be considered.
• One scholarship awarded per employee family.

Established to support students enrolled in college courses through a Youth, Adult and Community Connections program at at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ (i.e., High Tech Academy, Ohio College Tech Prep, at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Access Centers). The goals of these programs are to expand access to higher education for both youth and adults and to encourage students to pursue a college degree while preparing for employment. Recipients are recommended by at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s vice president of Access and Community Connections.

Criteria

• Early College or Access Center program participant.

Established in memory of Alfred Penko, a 30-year professor of mechanical engineering at at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ who believed in the value of a good education. Recipients are selected by members of at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Engineering department and Financial Aid office.

• Minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Enrolled in an engineering technology program.
• Demonstrated financial need.

Established in honor of the inauguration of Jerry Sue Thornton, Ph.D., as the fourth president of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. Scholarships are available for students enrolled in either credit or noncredit programs.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Enrolled in an instructional or workforce training program.

Established in honor of community philanthropists Richard and Lela Schier. Richard Schier was a proud graduate of West Tech high school and a WWII U.S. Navy veteran. The Schiers were strong believers in the value of education, particularly in the fields of economics and engineering.

Criteria

• Minimum 3.3 GPA.
• Enrolled in an engineering technology program.
• Demonstrated financial need.

Established in honor of Margaret Taber, Ed.D., a pioneer for women in engineering who began her career at at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ in the 1960s. Earning master’s and doctorate degrees during her tenure, she taught electrical/electronic engineering courses and served as department chair. Recipients are selected by members of at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Engineering department and Financial Aid office.

• Minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Enrolled in an engineering technology program.
• Demonstrated financial need.

Initially established in 2002 to honor Jerry Sue Thornton’s 10th anniversary as president of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, this scholarship fund increased significantly upon Dr. Thornton’s retirement in June 2013. Numerous business and community leaders donated funds to honor and recognize her superb leadership, dedication and commitment to the at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Foundation, the College, and to the students and community we serve. Awards may be applied toward child care, temporary transportation costs and other situations that may restrict the recipient’s access to education.

• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Enrolled in an instructional or workforce training program.

Established in memory of Florence Wolters-Chew, at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ chemistry instructor and founder of the College’s Women in Science and Technology program.

Criteria

• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Female student attending the Western Campus.
• Completed at least 10 hours of study in the sciences.

Established to assist at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students pursuing workforce training or retraining to upgrade skills for current positions or new careers. The fund is supported by donations from Aleris, Forest City Enterprises, the Gene Haas Foundation, Lincoln Electric, the Meisel Family Foundation and PNC Financial Services Group.
